The University of North Texas has introduced the RCOB EDGE Program at its G. Brint Ryan College of Business, aiming to prepare students for their future careers by developing key professional skills and establishing industry connections prior to graduation. Scheduled for February 28, 2025, at the UNT’s G. Brint Ryan School of Business building in Denton, Texas, this initiative promises to be a pivotal moment for participating students.

The EDGE Program focuses on five crucial career readiness milestones: career and professional development, leadership and teamwork, cultural and community engagement, student success, and ethical and social responsibility. Through a dedicated app, students track their progress in these areas, earning accolades such as a stole or pin upon graduation.

Kirsten Durr, the student success coordinator at the Ryan College of Business, oversees the program. She highlights the program’s innovative approach through its Suitable-powered app, which gamifies engagement, simplifying progress tracking while providing the college with insights to support students better.

EDGE involves a variety of activities, such as networking events, leadership workshops, and interactions with industry professionals. These can be attended in-person at UNT’s Denton campus, UNT at Frisco, or completed virtually at the student’s own pace. The program aims to equip students with practical experiences, giving them a distinct advantage in the workforce.

According to UNT sophomore marketing major Matthew Molito, the EDGE Program has been instrumental in his academic journey. He emphasizes the opportunities he has had to volunteer, attend etiquette dinners, and participate in career fairs, all seamlessly accessible through the app.

Moreover, the program provides an ePortfolio feature, allowing participants to document their experiences and showcase their accomplishments to potential employers. Wendy Caballero, a sophomore and EDGE participant for two years, cites the program as a significant factor in her career path, especially as a first-generation student exploring the finance world.

The RCOB EDGE Program represents a concerted effort by UNT to enhance student engagement and professional readiness, embodying the university’s commitment to comprehensive student development.
