Texas Woman’s University (TWU) has introduced a Bachelor of Music in musical theatre program, set to begin in 2024, providing students with a comprehensive education in music, theatre, and dance. This program aims to prepare students with 21st-century training and industry placement opportunities.

Under the leadership of Julio Matos, Jr., an experienced actor and director, the program is designed to cultivate the next generation of diverse and empowered leaders in musical theatre. TWU stands as the only institution within a 100-mile radius to offer this specialized degree.

“Our low-cost degree option will provide students the opportunity to explore the usual courses in voice, acting, and dance while also learning music technology and musical theatre entrepreneurship,” Matos explained. The program culminates in an industry showcase where students can audition for professional agents and casting directors.

The planned mainstage season for 2025-26 at TWU includes the following productions:

  • Zombie Prom
  • Circle of Light Concert
  • Love & Loss: A Musical Revue
  • Musical Theatre Showcase: What’s Up, Broadway!
