DENTON, August 26, 2024 — Texas Woman’s University (TWU) has launched its Doswell School of Aeronautical Sciences, marking a significant milestone with its first class of students this fall. Among them, Danah Alramahi, an incoming freshman from Coppell, Texas, has made history as the recipient of the largest scholarship ever awarded at TWU.
Alramahi was awarded a $140,000 scholarship, fully covering her four-year education. The scholarship, funded by the TBM Owners and Pilots Association (TBMOPA), was announced to her in a surprise presentation at the university. The scholarship aims to support her pursuit of a career in aviation, a field she has been passionate about since childhood.
Clint Grant, the director of the Doswell School, emphasized that Alramahi’s dedication and passion for aviation made her the ideal candidate for the scholarship. He highlighted the financial challenges associated with flight training, which can exceed $100,000 over four years, in addition to tuition costs. Despite these obstacles, Alramahi remained committed to her goal of becoming an aviator and airline pilot.
“I’ve always dreamed of flying,” Alramahi said. “This scholarship is a life-changing opportunity, and I am incredibly grateful.”
Grant noted that the Doswell School’s program is designed for students who are deeply committed to aviation. “We want students who are serious about becoming pilots. Danah’s determination and passion for this field were evident from the start,” he said.
Alramahi’s father, Basel, expressed his pride in his daughter’s achievements and dedication. Her mother, Faten, shared her initial concerns but ultimately supported Danah’s decision to pursue her dreams while staying close to home.
The launch of the Doswell School of Aeronautical Sciences at TWU is a significant development in the region, as there are few aviation programs available in Texas. Alramahi considered other options but chose TWU for its proximity and the new opportunities it offered.
The TBM Owners and Pilots Foundation, which provided the scholarship, sees this initiative as an investment in the future of aviation. “We are committed to supporting the next generation of aviators,” said Tom McGrath, chairman of the TBM Owners Foundation. “This scholarship reflects our dedication to fostering educational opportunities and inspiring a passion for aviation.”
As the aviation industry continues to evolve, with more pilots coming from civilian backgrounds rather than military service, scholarships like the one awarded to Alramahi are becoming increasingly crucial in supporting aspiring aviators.
