DENTON – Texas Woman’s University (TWU) has announced the appointment of Dr. Jace Hargis as its first chief artificial intelligence (AI) strategist, marking a significant step in the institution’s commitment to integrating AI into its educational framework. Starting July 1, Dr. Hargis will bring his considerable expertise to the role, following his tenure as an AI researcher and consultant in higher education.

Dr. Angela Bauer, TWU’s Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, expressed confidence in Dr. Hargis’s ability to enhance the university’s capabilities. “Dr. Hargis brings to the position a unique blend of expertise in evidence-based teaching practices, assessment of student learning and the use of AI to enhance both,” she stated.

Dr. Hargis’s career highlights an amalgam of international experience and academic roles that underscore his qualifications for this strategic position. His previous roles include associate vice president of academics at the University of Doha Science and Technology in Qatar and vice president for curriculum and faculty development at Kean University in New Jersey. Notably, he also served as the founding director for several teaching and learning centers worldwide.

Holding a PhD in curriculum and instruction from the University of Florida, Dr. Hargis has published extensively on the integration of emerging technologies in education, with over 150 scholarly articles to his credit. His background positions him uniquely to address the pedagogical challenges faced by public institutions.

At TWU, Dr. Hargis will be responsible for developing comprehensive AI strategies aimed at enhancing teaching methodologies, streamlining administrative processes, and furthering the university’s research goals. His role involves fostering collaborations across various units within TWU and partnering with external organizations, ensuring the ethical application of AI technologies.

Dr. Hargis’s appointment is poised to propel TWU into a new era of technological adoption and innovative educational practices, aligning with the institution’s dedication to advancing its research agenda. As AI continues to transform higher education, TWU’s proactive measures under Dr. Hargis’s leadership reflect its commitment to preparing students for an increasingly technological world.
