This year’s showcase is creatively themed ‘Chateau Bordeaux,’ inspired by an upcoming educational excursion to Paris for 30 TWU students. This trip marks the program’s first overseas journey since the COVID-19 pandemic, offering students an immersive experience in the epicenter of global fashion.
The showcase integrates curricular elements from Event Planning, Production Techniques, and Retail Product Management courses. It features input from across the division, including design creations from seniors, merchandising skills showcased in retail market concepts, and organizational efforts by juniors. Sophomores manage the retail market, with freshmen volunteering to provide support.
“All senior students taking fashion design and merchandising will be showing their work,” noted Remy Odukomaiya, MFA and lecturer. “It’s good for the department because it shows a more rounded view of what we do, that we don’t only make garments. We are also in the business of fashion.”
This model of interdisciplinary cooperation highlights TWU’s commitment to an interconnected educational experience. According to Anna Magie, Ph.D., assistant professor and division head, this integration mirrors real-world industry dynamics where designers, merchandisers, and marketers collaboratively drive fashion innovation.
The seniors participating include dual degree candidates Gladys Salvador and Keishawna Wheaton, alongside a talented roster of both merchandising and design students. The complete list of seniors can be found on the Senior Fashion Showcase website, offering further insight into their diverse projects and academic journeys.
With the merging of practical coursework and real-world exposure, the Senior Fashion Showcase remains a central pillar of TWU’s fashion program, fostering a thriving creative community in Denton and beyond.
