This week, we’ve introduced you to some of the talented high school students working in the 2019 Mayor’s Summer Youth Job Program. Today, we’re spotlighting two talented students at the City of Denton Animal Shelter: Elise and Alec.

Animal Services staff recognized the unique skillsets Elise and Alec possess, so their responsibilities this summer were crafted to best match their needs.

Elise, who aspires to work in veterinary care, spent her second consecutive summer at the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center. She has had the opportunity to see veterinarians in action as they work with animals, as well as shadow other jobs at the shelter. Additionally, if you adopted a pet this summer, Elise might have helped you during the process.

As soon as Alec arrived at the shelter, his love for dogs was clear to Animal Services staff. Teaming up with an employee, Alec has gained valuable experience training dogs. He has also helped show dogs to potential new families, and he’s always willing to dive into new assignments.

Thanks for your hard work this summer, Elise and Alec!
