Denton, TX – As the new school year approaches, Denton Parks and Recreation is rolling out a variety of events and programs aimed at ensuring students have a fun and engaging return to school. The highlight of the back-to-school season is the annual Back to School Bash, set to take place on August 5, 2024, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers a wide array of activities including games, a bounce house, vendor stalls, seminars, and free haircuts and manicures. The day concludes with a school supply distribution. In the evening, from 7 to 9 p.m., students can enjoy a DJ dance party complete with snacks, food, ice cream, games, and DJ/Karaoke sessions.

This event aims to foster community spirit and ensure students are well-prepared for the academic year. Community members are encouraged to contribute by donating school supplies or volunteering their time. Contributions can be made in the form of school supplies, giveaways, monetary donations, or volunteer services.

In conjunction with this event, the Denia Recreation Center hosted a Back to School Supply Drive, collecting over 2,500 donations from the community. These donations will support students throughout Denton, helping them start the school year on a positive note.

Beyond the Back to School Bash, Denton Parks and Recreation offers several programs throughout the school year:

  1. After School Action Site (ASAS) – Starting August 7, this program provides a balance of homework supervision and recreational activities, including intramural leagues, arts and crafts, field trips, and more. Students are picked up from various schools and taken to designated recreation centers.
  2. Kids Rock – This monthly event gives kids a night out filled with themed activities, mini-sports tournaments, and a DJ, while parents enjoy a night off. The program includes pizza and drinks, with additional concessions available for purchase.
  3. Mobile Rec – Starting in September, this program brings recreational activities to different parks or recreation centers every second and fourth Saturday. The events include games, sports, music, and arts and crafts.
  4. Teen Night Out and Teen Lock-In – These programs provide teenagers with opportunities to socialize and engage in various activities. Teen Night Out is hosted at Denia Recreation Center, while Teen Lock-In offers an overnight event with games and activities.

Denton Parks and Recreation invites students and their families to participate in these programs, emphasizing their mission to “Unite, Grow, and Play.” For more information, visit the Denton Parks and Recreation catalog.
