Oct. 28, 2025 — DENTON — The Center for Women Entrepreneurs (CWE) at Texas Woman’s University has awarded $5,000 grants to ten entrepreneurs through its StartHER Grant Program, aiming to support women-owned businesses across Texas.
This year’s competition received 303 applications from aspiring and established women entrepreneurs seeking to enhance their for-profit businesses, which have been operating for five years or less. The demand for access to additional resources highlights the continued need for support among women-led enterprises in the state.
“We were thrilled by the volume and quality of responses this year,” said Tracy Irby, the CWE’s director. “It’s clear that women in Texas are ready to launch and scale businesses, and they’re seeking the resources to do so. The CWE remains committed to empowering women-owned businesses through funding, advising, and training that build long-term success.”
The awarded businesses plan to use the funds for various investments, including equipment purchases, technology upgrades, production enhancements, professional certifications, marketing improvements, and specialized training.
Awardees are required to attend a small business training program offered by the CWE, which covers key areas such as business planning, strategic marketing, legal and insurance necessities, and sound financial management. Additionally, recipients must complete at least three hours of individual advising with a small business advisor and develop a comprehensive business plan.
By providing financial support along with educational and mentoring opportunities, the StartHER grant aims to foster individual business growth, contributing to broader economic development, job creation, and innovation across Texas.
The CWE operates under TWU’s Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership, which focuses on equipping women with the skills necessary for successful careers in business and public service.
