Looking for a fun way to spend your Father’s Day this Sunday? This holiday comes on the night of the new Moon! What a perfect time to enjoy stargazing. Plus, it’s the first full day of summertime, bringing more hours of sunshine. Celebrate with these Father’s Day ideas.

In 2021, Father’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday, June 20.

Father’s Day on the Summer Solstice

This year, we’re all celebrating Father’s Day on the first day of summer! The summer solstice happens at 5:44 P.M. EDT on Sunday, June 20.

The days leading up to and directly following the solstice are some of the longest of the year, which means you’ll have plenty of time to celebrate your father!

Take advantage. Enjoy the natural world. Go outdoors for a hike in the local park. Or invite Dad over for an evening on the patio.

Temperate June is a wonderful time to watch the summer constellations, too. Here’s our free June star chart showing how to find the Big Dipper, the Greater Bear, a Swan, and a Dragon!

Camping With Dad

If you’re able to spend time with dad, how about arranging a weekend at a campground or lodge? It’s a great way to spend quality time together that he’ll always remember.

No one wants to spend all day cooking when you could be enjoying the outdoors, so try these quick and easy “Potato Hobo Packs,” which can be made for either breakfast or dinner.

Don’t forget to make s’mores, too, the most important part of any camping trip.

Best Days to Fish

With early sunrises and late sunsets, it’s a great time to go fishing.

Coincidentally, Father’s Day also falls under our “Best Days for Fishing” this year!

Check our fishing tackle box list so you’re all set. And be sure to look at these handy fishing tips before you and your dad head out!

Once you’ve caught some fish, here’s how to cook them up for the family.

Father’s Day Recipes

This leads to our next idea, a cookout! After a day of fishing, make this “Dad’s Catch” Baked Fish!

See all our best Grilling Tips and Recipes for more ideas from burgers to ribs to kebabs. Also, consult our guide to grilling vegetables.

Remember, dads are more than just BBQ lovers. For a sweet finish to a great Dad’s Day, give him these dad-created and -approved chocolate oatmeal cookies.

Plan a Picnic

One more summertime idea! Make the most of the extra daylight by packing up a picnic basket and heading outdoors to your favorite spot at a local park.

Here are a few of our favorite picnic recipe ideas to give you some inspiration.
