In a tweet today, the Board of Trustees voted to postpone the 2020 Arts & Jazz Festival due to COVID-19.

From the Texas State Historical Association, “The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is the result of efforts by the Denton Festival Foundation and the local community to promote jazz music. From the first arts festival, the “Spring Fling” on April 19–20, 1980, to the emergence of the Denton JazzFest in 1988, the Festival Foundation has striven to bring good music and art to the public. In 1990 the two events of Spring Fling and JazzFest were merged into one event and renamed the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. By the late 1990s the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival had turned into a major regional music event that began to attract large crowds from all over the state.”

Previously, Denton Arts and Jazz posted on their homepage, “As the situation regarding the COVID-19 continues to evolve, we want to reach out to everyone and let you know that our priority is the health and safety of all. While there are no plans to cancel or postpone the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival at this time, we will continue to monitor the situation and we are working with City and County representatives in this matter. When, and if, we have news to share, we will do so on both our website and on all social media channels. A lot can happen in 6 weeks and we are hopeful that we will get to welcome you all to our 30th Annual event. Stay tuned….. “
