UNT is offering several low-cost or free computer-related STEM camps for middle and high school students through the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering.

“STEM camps give young adults the chance to explore areas and career choice they might not have thought of before. These camps give students a chance to expand their horizons,” said Sarah Beaver, who will lead the camps at the UNT North Texas Coding Academy.

UNT North Texas Coding Academy is offering three camps through July and August for middle and high school students age 13 and up. Each camp takes place at UNT Discovery Park, 3940 North Elm Street, Denton, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch is included.

The camps have limited space, and students are encouraged to apply for a full scholarship (valued at ~$700) for each camp. The camps offer opportunities for both coding and creativity to give teens a foundation and confidence to view themselves as future tech moguls.

  • The Creative Coding Leadership Camp will take place July 11-15 and will teach computer science foundations and coding while encouraging entrepreneurship and hands-on projects.
  • The Computer Science Career Camp will take place July 18-22 and will teach computer science foundations and coding, while discussing steps for pursuing tech careers and hands-on projects.
  • The Computer Science Fashion Camp will take place Aug. 1-5 and will use computer science foundations with coding instruction themed around e-textiles and fashion.

UNT GenCyber Cybersecurity Summer Camp will have four sessions during June and July. Attendees will learn cybersecurity and defense techniques through hands-on learning and relevant, everyday life situations. Camp dates are June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 5-8 and July 11-15.
