Last November the City of Denton, Parks and Recreation and biking community celebrated the official grand opening of the Hartlee Field Mountain Bike Trail in northeast Denton. The 5.3-mile-long single-track trail was built by a core group of volunteers along with assistance from staff. While the trail does not have significant topography, it is a course designed for speed with approximately 80 feet in elevation change throughout the course.
The course was designed by Dr. Joseph Walker, University of North Texas. Walker provided significant support to Parks and Recreation during the layout and construction process.
This fall another phase of the trail will begin with the addition of alternative trails with more of a technically difficultly for the experienced bike rider. The long-term plan for the park estimates approximately 8 miles of trails with various levels of difficulty. If you are interested in volunteering at the trail and would like to be part of future planning efforts, please contact Autumn Natalie at autumn.natalie@cityofdenton.com.
We also plan to have some upcoming new programs with the trail such as a Mountain Biking day. For all new programs and events check out the link https://secure.rec1.com/TX/city-of-denton-tx/catalog.
