This summer, Parks and Recreation, Fire, Animal Services, Library, and Traffic Engineering are just some of the diverse departments seeking student workers. Not only will you gain hands-on knowledge that can be applied to a future career, you will get to know mentors and have the opportunity to work on impactful projects.
The program runs June 8 through July 31, and students will be paid for their 20 to 30 hours of work each week. Submit your application here, and we will contact you for an interview. For more information, visit www.cityofdenton.com/msyjp or check out our program flyer below.
Here’s how a few 2019 participants spent their summers:
-
At the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center, the responsibilities given to Elise and Alec were crafted to best match their unique skillsets. They had the opportunity to shadow a veterinarian, show animals to potential new families, and much more.
-
While working at the Municipal Court, Emma gained insight into a future career in law. In addition to shadowing staff, some of her responsibilities included examining case statuses and making calls.
-
During Katherine’s second summer in the program, she worked directly with Denton Public Library patrons. Katherine took part in different projects and helped with outreach events. She said the skills she gained will be applicable in any career.
