Holiday Operating Hours and Closings

Denton Stories

City of Denton facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25 in observance of the Christmas federal holiday, as well as on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, in observance of New Year’s Day. Please note the following with respect to specific City of Denton services and facilities.

Libraries
All libraries will close at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23 and will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Thursday, Dec. 26.

All libraries will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will remain closed through Wednesday, Jan. 1. All branches will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2 and resume regular business hours.

Animal Services and Shelter
Animal Services and the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25; and Wednesday, Jan. 1. To report an animal-related non-emergency, call (940) 349-8181 and select option 8. In case of an emergency, call 911.

Parks and Recreation
All Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25; and Wednesday, Jan. 1. All Parks and Recreation facilities will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Public Safety
Public safety personnel will be on duty throughout the holidays. The Denton Police Department non-emergency number is (940) 349-8181, and in case of an emergency, dial 911.

Utilities
Customer Service will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25; and Wednesday, Jan. 1. To report a utility service emergency, call Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000.

Solid Waste & Recycling
On Tuesday, Dec. 24, the City of Denton Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to noon. Collection will not be affected.

On Wednesday, Dec. 25, there will be no curbside trash, recycling, or yard waste collection, and the landfill will be closed. Wednesday’s pickup will move to Thursday, and Thursday’s pickup will move to Friday. Administrative offices will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

The City of Denton collects and composts Christmas trees every year and converts them to Dyno Dirt products. From Dec. 26 to Jan. 31, residents can schedule a free curbside collection of undecorated, non-artificial, non-flocked trees by calling (940) 349-8700. Non-artificial trees will also be accepted at the City of Denton Landfill to be composted. For more information, visit www.cityofdenton.com/2019treerecycling.

Airport
Airport administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25; and Wednesday, Jan. 1. The air traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24 hours per day. Flight services will be available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the holidays. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.
