Denton Public Library, in partnership with the City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department, is delighted to announce the upcoming installation of our second StoryWalk© location at Fred Moore Park, situated at 501 S. Bradshaw Street. This follows the successful launch of our inaugural StoryWalk© on the Denton Square in late 2021.

This unique project represents a fusion of literature, creativity, and outdoor exploration, delivering an engaging, fun-filled, family-friendly experience. For those unfamiliar with the concept, a StoryWalk© is an innovative approach to encouraging children and families to develop a love for reading while also appreciating the beauty of their local parks and outdoor spaces.

In a StoryWalk©, laminated pages from a picture book are inserted into special signposts installed along a walking path. As participants stroll down the path, each signpost guides them to the next page of the story, creating a dynamic narrative experience that unfolds with each step. This initiative has seen success not just in the United States but across the globe, with installations in 50 states and 13 countries including Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and South Korea.

The expansion of the StoryWalk© project to Fred Moore Park has been made possible through funding received from a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. This grant, awarded to the Denton Public Library under TSLAC’s Texas Reads category, supports local community projects aimed at promoting reading and literacy.

During its first year, the Fred Moore Park StoryWalk© will feature a rotation of five different stories. These stories are chosen with great care, revolving around important social and life events such as Juneteenth, the first day of school, family, and perseverance.

We cordially invite you to visit the park and enjoy our StoryWalk© once it is installed. It promises to be a novel and inspiring experience that combines the joys of reading with the beauty of the great outdoors. We hope to see you there soon!
