The Friday Staff Report to City Council provides weekly updates between staff and Council. The report highlights several key updates: yard waste and brush collection services will start earlier to protect staff from the summer heat, the City received strong ‘AA+’ credit ratings for bond sales, and Denton Municipal Electric was recognized for mutual aid during tornado recovery. A public workshop on the Denton Enterprise Airport Master Plan will be held on June 26, and paving work at IOOF Cemetery is scheduled for June 12-14. Additionally, mosquito monitoring for West Nile Virus has begun. In response to Council Member requests, a pothole on Hobson Lane was temporarily filled and scheduled for a permanent fix, and concerns about smart irrigation systems and water conservation were addressed.
General Information
Solid Waste and Recycling Schedule Change for Yard Waste and Brush Collection – From Jun. 10 until Sep. 30, yard waste and brush collection services will begin at 6 a.m. to protect staff from the heat. Residents should leave bins on the curb if debris is not collected on the regular service day, and bins will be picked up by the end of the week.
Fitch and S&P Global Bond Credit Rating – The City received ‘AA+’ ratings from Fitch and S&P for upcoming General Obligation and Certificates of Obligation bond sales. The City Council adopted bond ordinances on Jun. 4 to improve utility infrastructure and refund debt.
CoServ Recognizes Denton Municipal Electric (DME) for Mutual Aid – On Jun. 6, DME was recognized by CoServ for assistance during the recent tornado response. With DME’s help, nearly 90 poles, 60 transformers, and over 180,000 feet of wire were replaced in a few days.
Master Plan Public Workshop – On Jun. 26, Denton Enterprise Airport will host a Master Plan Public Information Workshop at 5 p.m. at the Airport Terminal Building. Stakeholders and residents can learn about the planning process and view draft documents on the new website: https://dto.airportstudy.net/.
IOOF Cemetery Paving – Parks Maintenance staff will pave a portion of the entryway and western driveway of IOOF Cemetery off W. Highland Street from Jun. 12 to Jun. 14.

Council Member Requests
Pothole on Hobson Lane – On May 30, a pothole on Hobson Lane was temporarily filled with cold asphalt mix and added to the maintenance schedule for a permanent fix. Residents are encouraged to report potholes using the Engage Denton app.
Water Conservation and Smart Irrigation Systems – On May 31, concerns were raised about smart irrigation systems and the new water conservation plan potentially causing overwatering. While the plan may limit some capabilities, most smart systems can still be adjusted for specific watering days to manage water resources effectively.
Classification of Windsor Road Extension – On Jun. 4, the Windsor Road Extension was mistakenly classified as a Secondary Arterial instead of a Major Collector. The project planning software has been updated, and residents were notified of the correct classification and the mislabeling issue.
