General Information
Denton Community Job Fair – The City of Denton, in partnership with multiple local organizations, is hosting a job fair at the Denton Civic Center on April 4, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event, aimed at connecting job seekers with up to 50 local businesses, offers numerous free services including resume review, interview coaching, and headshots. Businesses interested in participating can find more information on the dedicated website.
Dangerous Dog Report – Following a citation issued by an Animal Services Officer for a dangerous dog report on March 18, subsequent investigation led to the dog being impounded after an unprovoked attack. The case is advancing towards a Dangerous Dog determination.
Design Downtown Denton Update – The ongoing Design Downtown Denton plan features two upcoming events in April 2024: an Advisory Group meeting and a Quakertown Park Design Workshop. These sessions aim to engage the community in the planning process, offering opportunities for feedback and creative input.
Riney Road Sidewalks – To address community concerns and improve pedestrian mobility, the City is fast-tracking the construction of sidewalks along Riney Road, with completion expected by August 2024. This project precedes the full reconstruction of the road.
Childcare Survey – Leadership Denton Class 39 is conducting a survey to gather community input on affordable childcare needs. Feedback received by April 15 will inform a project to be presented to the Denton Chamber of Commerce in May, targeting the enhancement of local childcare solutions.
Council Member Requests
Pecan Creek Neighborhood Cleanup – Mayor Hudspeth has facilitated support for a cleanup event at Pecan Creek, scheduled for March 23, as part of the Great American Cleanup. Over 70 volunteers are expected to participate in clearing the trails in the area.
Median Improvement Planning – Council Member Holland has requested support for a neighborhood homeowners’ association (HOA) planning median improvements. Development Services staff are offering their assistance and can be contacted for discussions on this matter.
Neighborhood Street Lights – After a request was forwarded by Council Member Byrd from an HOA interested in adding streetlights, it was found that the existing infrastructure could not support the new installations. Alternative solutions have been provided to meet the HOA’s lighting needs.
Excessive Noise Complaint – Council Member Meltzer relayed a resident’s complaint about noise from a nearby food truck. Following an inspection, the food truck was found non-compliant with noise regulations and has been instructed to adhere to the required standards by March 26.
