Denton’s Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce that Bowling Green Park has been awarded a $598,532 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) Local Park Grant. This funding will cover 50% of the proposed construction for upgrades and improvements to the 18-acre community park.
Bowling Green Park currently offers a community garden, playground, picnic tables, benches, and a small fruit orchard. However, after an extensive master plan process with the community in January 2021, the Denton City Council approved a new plan that will enhance the park’s offerings. The updated plan includes an ADA accessible community garden, additional parking, a pedestrian bridge, extensions of trails to connect to the surrounding neighborhoods and city facilities, a pavilion, and landscaping improvements throughout the park.
The grant process with TPWD will begin this summer, and the city does not anticipate receiving the Notice to Proceed from TPWD until winter 2023/2024. With this timeline, construction is estimated to begin in the summer of 2024.
The Parks and Recreation department is thrilled to receive the grant and to bring the community’s vision to life. This new plan will not only enhance the current offerings but will also provide a more inclusive environment for all visitors.
